We believe that tourism can be a vehicle for encouraging rural communities in their development to enhance their way of life. It can also be a vehicle for sharing positive information and knowledge between various cultures and regions, thus inspiring a positive living at both ends.
We will invest 20% of our income to support the community development projects in Humla district of NW Nepal.
Nepal is one of the least developed nations sandwiched between China in the north and India in the east, west and south. Humla is one of the poorest regions even within Nepal. It lies 440km NW of capital Kathmandu in Nepal along the Tibetan border. It is a remote and desperately impoverished region with adult illiteracy rate 80% – there are no roads and communication facilities, few schools, and minimal health facilities with only one part time doctor for about 52000 inhabitants. Our Community Development Projects will start from Bargaon area of Humla and later expand into Thehe and Kharpunath areas and later expand into other regions once we acquire sufficient funds.
There are various places in Nepal where health care is non-existent or very poor. The Humla district in western Nepal is one of them. With 8% of literacy rate, the region is under a great threat of health disaster and with grassroots level health education, these disasters can be prevented. On an individual level, we have been working since 1994 in establishing primary health care facilities in the region by establishing health posts and training people as well as providing medicine in the health posts with some support from charities but now again with lack of further support, there is a dire need of help.
We will work with the Locals clubs and village development committee to:
We believe that every corner of the world faces the problem of environment degradation and climate change and therefore it is our responsibility to contribute to the preservation of our natural resources with the best of our abilities. We will work with the communities directly so that we can see we get the real results.
The upper belt of Humla is inhabited by people of Tibetan origin. They practice Pre-Buddhist (Bon) tradition combined with Tibetan Buddhism. Their language of use is Tibetan. These communities cover Bargaon, Muchu, Kagalgaon and Limi & partially Simikot and Thehe Village development committees. The estimated total population in these areas is 12000 people.
This area has very poorly managed government primary and secondary schools, where the teaching in English, the pre-condition for higher education and indigenous Tibetan languages in non existent. Due to this, on one hand the local Tibetan language along with their culture and religion is at risk of disappearance on the other hand their poor education base blocks them from higher studies.
Our project ‘Primary Education for Indigenous Tibetan communities in upper Humla’ has the goal to enhance the educational status of the disadvantaged indigenous Tibetan communities in upper Humla and preserve their cultural and traditional heritage.
In order to achieve the goal, following activities will be carried out.
Please contact us if you would like to get more information or be a part of this initiative. We will very much appreciate any kind of support in helping this impoverished part of the Himalayas.
Enhance the quality of living standard in Humla district with better health care services, proper education, conserved forests and environment.
