Sacred Travel experience
We offer small group and customized trips with well researched itineraries. We involve and work with real community people. In our journeys, the visitors not only discover the pristine and sacred places in the Himalayas but also they will find the valuable knowledge to discover the inherent goodness in them in enriching their lives. This was the spirit in the pilgrims of the early ages in all worldly traditions but the spirit was lost in our modern day travel industry. Secret Himalaya Travels has reawakened the pilgrimage spirit - making our journeys special, sacred and inspiring.
We will also allow you the opportunity to interact with the people, Buddhist masters, shamans and others. You can learn from them and share your values too. After all, we are a one big family, in one world that is so delicately interconnected; more we know about each other and share, better and sacred the experience is going to be.
Decade-long expertise
Our staff and guides have been leading groups successfully in the region for more than 10 years. In addition they come from local areas of the trekking regions. This adds to the depth of the knowledge that they can share. Our well trained and experienced staff will guarantee your safety and comfort throughout the trip.
Changing people’s lives
We believe that tourism can be a vehicle for encouraging rural communities in their development to enhance their way of life. It can also be a vehicle for sharing positive information and knowledge between various cultures and regions, thus inspiring a positive living at both ends. We believe this has to be the mode of tourism for our time - to help impoverished communities and to build a bridge of peace and co-operation between various geographical and cultural divisions.
We plan to begin by investing 20% of our income into grassroots level community projects in highly impoverished regions, starting from Humla in Western Nepal. Our support will go to health care, educational projects, and environmental and cultural conservation projects.
Our team has worked in various charity projects since 1997 with organizations such as Nepal Trust/Nepal and UK, SNV/Nepal, UNESCO and Asia Network for Small Scale Agricultural and Bio-resources (ANSAB), Humla Conservation and Development Association, and Snow Leopard Conservancy, USA.
Environment friendly trips
We also make sure our journeys do not leave negative impact on the areas that we visit. We want to make sure that we leave the natural environment better than we found it. Our staff has been trained in this for years and our trips will strictly follow the environmental guidelines. We work with local communities, Trekking Agents Association of Nepal, Nepal Mountaineering Association, International Porter Protection group and various environmental groups to make sure we achieve our goals for environmentally responsible tourism.
Staff and Porter welfare
We support the objectives of IPPG (International Porter Protection Group) and make sure we have policies and practices that adhere to this cause. We make sure our staff is paid fair wages, and that our trekking staff, including porters, are provided with insurance and adequate gears on the trek.
