This gripping adventure will take you into a remote region of Himalaya which inspired one of the world's most famous myths; the myth of Shangri-La. Here you will visit some of the most extraordinary places on earth, exploring stories that have captivated the world for thousands of years. According to the legend, Shangri-La or Shambala is located in the Himalayas, surrounded by a ring of mountain peaks. The land is full of peace and harmony where isolated people live in accordance with Buddhist precepts, where the wisdom of humanity is conserved, ready to save the world when needed.
To explore and find the truth behind the legend, historian Michael Wood followed ancient roots and villages in remote Himalayas in Western Nepal and then on into west Tibet in 2004, finally discovering the real inspiration behind the myth. The exploration has been made into a documentary film, ‘In Search of Myths and Heroes’
Now we have developed an itinerary based on this fascinating exploration and discovery. On this trip you will visit the less explored and un-spoilt region of upper Humla and Limi valley where age-old Tibetan culture and traditions is sill practiced. Arrangements will be made so that you can experience the life of the people, through home stays and personal interaction. A special attraction of the trip includes visiting the abode of the Namkha Khyung Dzong monastery. Here you will meet face to face with the age-old traditions of the Himalayan Buddhist world. There will be a special session with the Rimpoche where you can put your questions regarding the Buddhist spirituality, pilgrimage and ways to transform your heart and mind. Also you will see some of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in the Himalayas, pristine valleys and rich biodiversity consisting of rare animals and rich medicinal plants. The trip will culminate with visit of sacred Mount Kailash, Toling and Tsaprang in west Tibet.
Just as the description of the Shambala in the legends, surrounded by the rings of mountains, this isolated land hidden from the world is magnificent in every inch to the weary eyes of modern travelers.
